More Book Talk

During my training for the bookstore job today, my boss told me that he got three hundred applications for the bookseller position. And I thought things were getting better? I mean, I got the job, but I also have a degree in English, have worked in publishing and retail, and read obsessively. So, really, I should be working somewhere more permanent, but circumstances have prohibited that from being the case.

I forgot what a concordance was. I am so ashamed. I need to go back to school.

It’s sad to say, but I’m realizing that many of the people who are involved in the book industry are stuck in the past. It’s easy for me to say because I haven’t invested my whole life in it (yet), but I believe change is a good thing and that you have to accept it and run with it. This is true both in terms of personal, micro-changes and in terms of the upheaval of an industry. But it’s also going to create a lot of confusion and job loss.
